Streetscape Design Survey
Improving how people move, through and within Oakville
The Town of Oakville, through its transportation master planning process, identified the need to rebuild and widen Kerr Street between Speers Road and Wyecroft Road, including the building of a new underpass at the Lakeshore West GO line. The town is partnering with Metrolinx to move forward with this project and complete it faster. Preliminary work on the project will start in 2019 with construction of the underpass starting as early as the spring of 2020. The work will take up to three years to complete. The current road alignment will remain in place during construction while we build the new road to the west.
This is a major engineering project and the town and Metrolinx will work hard to reduce the impact of construction on businesses, residents and local traffic as much as possible throughout project.
This project will improve traffic flow in the area, and allow Metrolinx to deliver increased GO service levels on the Lakeshore West line using electric trains. For details visit the Metrolinx website.
Streetscape Design — Open House September 13
This portion of the project focuses on the selection of street furnishings and other elements such as light poles, benches, pavers, and railings for Kerr Street, from the rail crossing, south to Speers Road. The town intends to incorporate the selected elements into a conceptual streetscape strategy for future reference and consideration for streetscape improvements within the Kerr Village Growth Area.

Drop by anytime. There will be no formal presentation. The streetscape elements will be displayed on information boards and town staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
We heard you
This meeting is a follow up to the open house we held on June 26 and the online streetscape design survey that has been open since June 27.
Online feedback open until August 31
You still have a chance to tell us what you think by completing our streetscape design survey. Thank you for participating!

Construction and Design
The Kerr Street Underpass Project is a critical part of the town’s Transportation Master Plan and will include:
- building a new underpass at Kerr St. and the Metrolinx railway;
- widening Kerr Street from Speers Road to just north of the QEW to allow for two northbound and two southbound lanes, including dual soutbound left turn lanes and a right turn lane at Speers Road; northbound and southbound left turn lanes at Shepherd Road, and a northbound left turn lane at the intersection with Wyecroft Road
- shifting the road alignment westerly to keep the underpass as far away from the Sixteen Mile Creek top of bank
The new underpass will also allow Metrolinx to deliver increased GO service levels on the Lakeshore West line using electric trains.
On May 2, the Town of Oakville and Metrolinx hosted a public meeting where the community learned about the overall project details, timing and logistics. A second meeting about the overall project will be held later in 2018. Stay tuned!
In spring/summer 2018, Metrolinx will issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to build the Kerr St. underpass along with other infrastructure required to expand GO service on the Lakeshore West line. The winning bidder will be selected in late 2018 and will be responsible for the detailed design, planning, staging and construction of the Kerr Street underpass.
